When You Pray, Prophesy!
Pastor Chris
Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy (1 Corinthians 14:1).
The Bible says "There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but they all come from the same Spirit" (1 Corinthians 12:4 CEV). There are several gifts that God imparts to His children through the agency of the Holy Spirit. But from our opening scripture, we can see that the gift of prophecy ranks above all the other gifts of the Spirit that you should desire. God wants you to have the gift of prophecy.
The gift of prophecy isn't just for pastors, prophets, evangelists and apostles; it's for the church! Every Christian ought to prophesy. To prophesy is to speak forth the Word of God in power, whether by foretelling of future events, or as a rhema-word to cause a change in the now! The Bible says "But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church" (1 Corinthians 14:3-4). When you declare the mind of God in prophecy, others are edified, strengthened and comforted.
Moses, in the Old Testament understood the power and importance of prophecy and wished that all of God's children prophesied (Numbers 11:29). But thanks be unto God; now that we are born again and have received the Holy Spirit, we've received the divine enablement and inspiration to prophesy.
